Is It OK to Wear White After Labor Day?

Not to answer a question with another question, but can you believe Labor Day is already here?

Labor Day marks the non-official end to summer, but that doesn’t mean we have to stow the barbecues, bathing suits, & beach towels.

And we certainly don’t need to be afraid or have it considered a faux pas to wear some white, especially on our smiles!

After all, according to this post about Labor Day facts, that little fashion fallacy was debunked in the Roaring 20s:

“In the late 1800s & early 1900s, it became the social norm for the wealthy to wear their white clothes during the summer months, reinforcing their status in society.”

“As Labor Day arrived marking the end of summer, the affluent packed up their white, lightweight clothing for heavier attire that could handle the fall’s cooler weather.”

“Fortunately, trail-blazing fashion designers bucked the trend in the 1920s, making it safe once again for white in the wardrobe throughout the year.”

So before we start hunkering down on the couch to watch football, binging on Halloween candy, and adding that winter coat, let’s check out a few ways we can all keep our smiles white – even after Labor Day.

When Is It OK to Wear White After Labor Day?

When you’re wearing a white smile, of course!

But according to these experts, wearing white after Labor Day is one fashion rule we don’t need to adhere to anymore.

The kids are heading back to school, the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer.

But no matter what section of the country you’re in, the months of September & October still offer some of the most beautiful warm sunny days and cool, crisp nights.

And when is weather even a consideration for flashing a dazzling white smile?

Professional teeth whitening  – performed by a dentist – is safe, quick, and relatively inexpensive. If you’re considering a whiter smile after Labor Day, check out some of the most beneficial reasons to consider a smile shape-up.

7 Teeth Whitening Benefits

If you would like to whiten your teeth a few shades, you can choose to lighten only your upper teeth or both the upper and lower, depending on how much you want to show off when you talk and smile.

Here are some of the primary benefits of professional teeth whitening:

  • Teeth whitening helps correct yellowing or stained teeth.
  • Teeth whitening works on people of all ages – but should generally be left to the adults, why would kids need teeth whitening anyway? (That’s about as ludicrous as adhering to a century-old fashion formula).
  • The most dramatic results — teeth generally get three to eight shades brighter — usually take several 30- to 60-minute in-office visits. (WebMD)
  • You can whiten your teeth naturally, just by eating some of these foods.
  • Teeth whitening boosts self-confidence.
  • Effects are almost immediate…unless you choose to use those whitening strips…more on that below.
  • You will SMILE MORE wearing a whiter smile – before or after Labor Day!

What About Over the Counter Teeth Whitening Products?

Over-the-counter bleaching agents are available for purchase at drug stores, supermarkets,  and pharmacies all over the country – but that doesn’t mean they are completely safe, or the best option for wearing a white smile after Labor Day.

Check out this story about a gentleman in the U.K. who opted for some OTC whitening strips, and wound up with a hole in is his throat!

Since over the counter teeth whitening products can cause harm to your  gums and teeth, it’s better to opt for in-office teeth whitening, or at the very least talk to your dentist about products they recommend.
